For centuries this monastery has been the biggest religious and cultural centre of the Russian state. There remains a historical and architectural 15th-19th century ensemble of churches, belfries and chambers.
Description: The Holy Trinity St. Sergius Laura is situated in Sergiev Posad, one of the most interesting towns in Moscow Region (65 km from Moscow). The monastery was founded in the 1340 by Reverend Sergius of Radonezh, whose name was given to the town. Icon painters Andrei Rublev and Daniel Horny worked here, they decorated with frescoes the main church of the monastery - the Trinity Cathedral. The cathedral keeps the imperishable relics of Reverend Sergius. The Trinity St. Sergius Laura grounds includes the biggest Russian monastery, the monastery necropolis and the Moscow Ecclesiastical Academy and Seminary.
